WEATHER
Maui in June offers warm, sunny days averaging 29–31°C and pleasant nights around 21–23°C.
Rain is rare, and the ocean is perfect for swimming at 25–27°C. Light winds add a refreshing breeze—
perfect for a tropical celebration!
TIME ZONES
Hawaii is 2-4 hours ahead of AU & NZ but a day behind. For example, leaving the night of the 18th means arriving the morning of the 18th, while departing Hawaii on the 23rd lands you home on the 25th.
This significant difference means Hawaii is nearly a full day earlier than Australia and New Zealand.
GETTING THERE
PLANE
Coming from Australia or New Zealand you will need to fly to Honolulu first. If you are connecting straight through to Maui, you will need to leave around 2 hours in Honolulu airport to clear USA customs and re-check your bags. Hawaiian airlines flies from Honolulu to Kahului airport (Maui) almost every hour so plenty of inter island flights throughout.
If you are connecting to Maui straight away, once you exit the International terminal turn left and head to terminal 1 which is the main Hawaiian Airlines check in terminal.
Once you land at Kahului airport, getting a taxi or uber to South Maui (Kihei, Wailea, Makena areas) will take around 30 mins.
From Sydney: You can fly direct to Honolulu daily with Qantas, Hawaiian, Jetstar, or Virgin, though not all airlines operate every day—so check schedules if you prefer a specific carrier. Both Qantas and Hawaiian allow you to book from Sydney to Kahului (Maui) in one ticket, with both boarding passes issued in Sydney. This makes connecting easier, as you can simply drop your bags at the inter-island bag drop after customs, skipping the need to re-check them at a counter.
From Auckland: Air NZ flies Wednesday, Fridays and Sundays to Honolulu.
VISA
Make sure closer to your travel dates you get your ESTA visitor visa for the USA.
Find more information here.
CASH
Although most places take card we suggest having some US cash with you, especially when travelling in taxis.
TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN
The welcome party and recovery day are kid-friendly, so feel free to bring your little ones and anyone helping care for them. There will be games and activities to keep them entertained!
The wedding day, however, is planned as a kid-free event so you can relax and enjoy some responsibility-free fun.
If you have a baby under 6 months who needs to stay close, let us know, and we’ll work to accommodate.
Regarding care, the nanny agency we have been recommended is The Nanny Connection.
Let us know if you need help getting in touch with them.
A friendly note: In Hawaii, you can travel with your kids on your lap (without child restraints) in taxis, but not Ubers. Keep this in mind if you are coming without car seats.
WHERE TO STAY
The welcome party, wedding, and recovery will all take place in Makena (South Maui). There are plenty of resorts in the Wailea-Makena area within walking distance, while more budget-friendly options are available in Kihei, just a 10-minute drive away.
Please note there are other weddings in Maui that weekend and accommodation is starting to book quickly alongside prices rising, we suggest booking as soon as you can :)
